Objective:To compare the effects of finasteride and dutasteride on the incidence and severity of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
Methods:A prospective observational study was conducted. Results:From 1 January 2009 to 30 July 2017, there were 528 patients with BPH, of which 295 were taking finasteride and 232 were taking dutasteride. The mean age was 57.1 years (range 18-90). The mean duration of follow-up was 18.9 months (range 1.6-60.3).
Conclusions:Both finasteride and dutasteride were associated with an increased risk of BPH. In this study, dutasteride was also associated with an increased risk of BPH.
